Macy’s Passport Presents Glamorama 2013, the annual fashion extravaganza and philanthropic fundraising event, is an enchanting reminder of Macy’s year-round commitment to give back. The company’s signature showcase brings together the latest Fall collections from designers and the best in music and entertainment for a night of breathtaking fashion and remarkable charity.

While last year’s show turned its attention overseas to the U.K. with the “British Invasion,” this year’s theme, “Fashion in a New Light,” used history, pop music, culture and technology to take attendees on an illuminating journey through fashion. This year’s performers included multi-talented singer, songwriter and producer Sheryl Crow and the aerobatic powerhouse Cirque du Soleil.

Sidenote: Before I get into a few of my favorite looks of the night, let me first say that I had no idea how beautiful Sheryl Crow is (and I’m not just talking about her appearance). Her voice was crystal clear and she really brought a presence to the stage that illuminated throughout the Harris Theatre.

The fashion show featured the works of eight designers, including Jean Paul Gaultier, Diesel, Philosophy, Rachel by Rachel Roy, TALLIA, Tommy Hilfiger, Weekend MaxMara and Macy’s newest impulse line, Maison Jules. While all of the collections lit up the stage, certain designers had looks that shined a little brighter.

Philosophy and TALLIA drew inspiration from past decades, offering looks reminiscent to those in The Great Gatsby. I was drawn particularly to the white Deco-Beaded Bat Wing Top paired with the white Pleated Skirt (above, second from left) for the ladies. For the gentlemen, I suggest the Brown Plaid Blazer paired with Dark Denim and a Purple Shirt with a Velvet Stripe. Both looks are perfect examples of how women and men can incorporate timeless style and a vintage feel into a contemporary look.

Maison Jules took classic pieces and silhouettes and added a modern twist. The entire collection, inspired by Parisian street style, featured flirty dresses and skirts that danced with movement. I project that we’ll see a greater reemergence of Parisian wear as the year moves forward — it’s comfortable, but inherently fashionable.

While there were many noteworthy garments hitting the runway, nothing stole the night as much as these two looks from Jean Paul Gaultier. He’s always pushing boundaries, and that’s something that I can appreciate. Some designers present the same stale pieces every year, I always look forward to seeing the latest from Gaultier. The current Fall collection draws inspiration from India, Africa and other cultures, adding a futuristic vibe and meshing them together. These pieces move beyond Afrofuturism — he’s created a sort of neo-ethnicfuturism.

Even more impressive than the fashion and performances from the night is the amount of money that was raised for charity. Proceeds from Glamorama benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana and the event grossed $250,000, with 1,900 people attending the sold out show.

Now tell me, what style trends will you be adapting this fall?
